Privacy notice
This notice explains what personal data we collect when you order a test, how we use it, and the choices and rights you have. It sits alongside the informed consent, which has more detail about the testing itself.
Who we are
Syndicate Bio Ltd, trading as direct by syndicate bio, of No 18 Chief Samuel Ajayi Street, Magodo Phase 2, Lagos, Nigeria, is the data controller for your personal data. Our data protection officer is Dr Onome Braimah, onome@syndicate.bio.
What we collect
We collect your name, phone or WhatsApp number, and email, the test you order, and the consent choices you make. We also collect your sample and the genetic and health data produced from it. Genetic and health data are sensitive personal data, and we treat them with extra care.
How we use it, and our legal basis
- To carry out the test you ordered and return your report. We rely on your consent to the test and on our role in providing you medical care.
- To take payment, which is handled by our payment provider on our behalf.
- To keep records of your order, which we need to run and evidence the service.
- For research that improves understanding of health and disease, using data that has first been anonymized so it no longer identifies you. This use relies on public-interest scientific research, and you can opt out.
- To contact you about clinical studies you may be eligible for, unless you opt out.
Who we share it with
We share data with service providers who help us deliver the test, such as our payment provider and our hosting and record-keeping providers, and with laboratory partners where a test requires it. We share data with authorities only where the law requires. We do not sell your data.
Sending data outside Nigeria
Where any of your data is processed outside Nigeria, we make the transfer under the safeguards the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 requires, so that it keeps an adequate level of protection.
How long we keep it
We keep your sample and your identifiable data for 10 years, then destroy the sample and delete or anonymize the data. Data that has been anonymized for research is kept beyond this, because it no longer identifies you.
Your choices
The research use and the recontact option are both optional. You can opt out of either at any time by unticking it on the order form or by contacting us. Opting out does not affect your test or the service you receive.
Your rights
You can ask to see your data, correct it, delete it, or restrict or object to certain uses, and you can withdraw a consent you have given. To exercise a right, contact us using the details below. If you have a concern we cannot resolve, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

We may update this notice. The version and date at the top show the current one.
